Self Storage Unit Numbers Frequently Asked Questions
How are self-storage unit numbers different from regular numbers?
Self-storage unit numbers are different from regular big box store numbers in several ways. Our unit numbers are pre-spaced which is probably the biggest difference. We design them to offer high quality with low maintenance while still being aesthetically pleasing. Our focus is to provide a durable solution that requires no maintenance for at least 15 years. Because these unit numbers are typically one of the final steps in a long and expensive self-storage construction project, we manufacture them to be easy to install.
What material are the self-storage unit numbers made of?
We cut our unit numbers from a 3M product called ScotchCal 220. 3M is the industry leader for vinyl and adhesives. Based on our personal experience with our own self-storage facility in Corpus Christi, Texas, our self-storage unit numbers lasted 17 years in the Gulf Coast heat and humidity before we decided to replace them. We have been selling this product since 1985 with very few issues over the almost 40 years.
Do you offer digitally printed numbers?
We do offer digitally printed unit numbers in very unique situations. However, we do not sell digitally printed numbers for exterior use. The inks used in digital printing will fade in the sun over time. Our use of digital ink numbers is limited to situations where exact color matches are needed and the numbers will be for interior storage units and on aluminum plates.
Can we place your new self storage unit number on top of our old numbers?
No. You will not be able to exactly match the font and spacing of something done several years ago. Even if everything matched, you would be putting new adhesive and vinyl over old material that might peel off.
Our strong suggestion is to let us put your new numbers on our pre-painted aluminum plates and you will glue or screw them over your old existing unit numbers.
Are the self-storage unit numbers weatherproof?
We have sold our numbers in Alaska and in Puerto Rico, and they have withstood severe weather in the coldest climates and near the equator. Airlines use 3M vinyl on the outside of jet airplanes, making our numbers completely weatherproof.
Can I choose the size and font of the self-storage unit numbers?
Yes, we can cut numbers from half an inch tall to 21 inches tall. We are able to match most fonts. Send a photo to us, and we will email our closest match back to you.
How do I install the self-storage unit numbers?
Installation is quick and easy. Clean the area, remove the release liner, place the unit number on the steel, and peel the tape off the front of the number. You can find our detailed application instructions here.
Are the self-storage unit numbers easy to remove or replace?
If you plan to remove your numbers anytime in the next 10 years, don’t use this product. If it ever becomes necessary to replace these numbers, use new numbers on aluminum plates to cover the old existing numbers. It will take far more time and expense to remove old numbers than to simply cover them up.
What colors are available for the self-storage unit numbers?
Self-storage door manufacturers and steel manufacturers have unique colors. 3M makes a wide variety of colors that will complement but not exactly match door manufacturers’ colors. Our clients have been very satisfied with the complementary colors available from 3M Scotchcal vinyl.
Can I order a specific quantity of self-storage unit numbers?
All of our orders are custom made. We don’t keep numbers on a shelf. The vast majority of our orders are for pre-space unit numbers. We can sell individual numbers if that is what you need.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit cards and ACH payments. We use QuickBooks invoicing so you pay online in a secure and encrypted environment.
Do you have a minimum order size?
Our minimum order is $50.
Can I order replacement self-storage unit numbers if I lose or damage them?
Yes, call us.
Are there any special care instructions for the self-storage unit numbers?
When you receive your door number order, it is a good idea to put the unit numbers in an air-conditioned area until you are ready to install them. Letting them bake in your car or in a non-climate storage unit will likely make your application process harder than it needs to be.
Do you offer international shipping?
Yes, we do ship internationally.
